N2  - This contribution deals with the interdependence between material properties of structural steel at elevated temperatures and critical temperatures of steel columns. A simple design method for estimating lower and upper bound values of critical temperatures is presented. Critical temperatures of steel columns can be determined by means of the related slenderness and the utilization factor. Both parameters can be calculated on the basis of design methods at normal temperatures.<p />
