TY - JOUR PY - 1997// TI - Predicting the Evacuation Capability of Mobility-Impaired Occupants JO - Fire technology A1 - Rubadiri, Lindiwe A1 - Ndumu, Divine T. A1 - Roberts, John P. SP - 32 EP - 53 VL - 33 IS - 1 N2 - Evacuation models have generally failed to provide adequate mechanisms for predicting the evacuation capability of mobility-impaired occupants, particularly with regards to predicting the effects of different escape route designs on such occupants' evacuation performance. This paper briefly reviews empiric evacuation models and presents a new procedure for predicting the evacuation capability of mobility-impaired occupants. Predictions that result from our procedure are compared to recorded times from observed hotel evacuations.
