Recourse to unsafe abortion with its corollary of complications can cause the death of the young woman. Abortion and infanticide are prohibited and punished by law in Senegal. How these young women live their detention? Are there alternatives to detention to prevent their socialization? Methods: This retrospective study examined the prison for women located in Dakar Liberté 6, a district of Dakar. We conducted interviews with women prisoners to house arrest in Dakar and women suspected of infanticide or abortion illegal. Results: The women in our sample have an average age below 25 years with an underage girl among them 16. We found 18.51% of women suspected of infanticide or abortion. In our study 50% of women are from the outskirts and suburbs of Dakar and nearly 44% are from other parts of the country. The average length of detention is nine months. Conclusion: Despite their distinct qualification in the Penal Code: infanticide is a crime and a crime of abortion, women suspected of having committed such acts are subject to lengthy pretrial detentions.
