N2  - This paper seeks to provide a common roadmap for accident investigators to assist them in collecting crash data from General Motors (GM) airbag electronic control units (ECUs). The paper consists of a series of appendixes, each with its own purpose, subject and focus. These guides contain steps that an investigator could use to download data and should help simplify and streamline the data collection process. The guides cover: data collection; alternative powering methods; ECU component transferring; ECU removal; ECU restoration; and ECU packing and shipping. Although the guides are written specifically for airbag ECUs from GM vehicles, portions might be adaptable to other types of ECUs.<p />
