TY - JOUR PY - 2004// TI - Treatment of salt poisoning due to soy sauce ingestion with hemodialysis JO - Japanese journal of toxicology A1 - Sakai, Yoko A1 - Kato, Michihisa A1 - Okada, Tsuyoshi A1 - Sagata, Yasufumi A1 - Goh, Ritsuko A1 - Kohyama, Arifumi A1 - Sumitomo, Michiko SP - 61 EP - 63 VL - 17 IS - 1 N2 - Fatal hypernatremia due to soy sauce ingestion is rare. We describe a 65-year-old woman who became unresponsive after ingesting 1150 ml of soy sauce. Her initial blood sodium concentration was 176 mEq/l. She was treated successfully with acute hemodialysis and her serum sodium concentration decreased to 146 mEq/l without any significant neurologic complication. We recommend hemodialysis is the best approach to correct severe hypernatremia.
