TY - JOUR PY - 2011// TI - Development of an anatomically-correct finite element model of the human shoulder JO - Proceedings of the International Research Council on the Biomechanics of Injury conference A1 - Gupta, Amit Kumar A1 - Sharma, Girish A1 - Shah, Parthiv A1 - Ageorges, Christophe A1 - Mayer, Christian SP - 228 EP - 231 VL - 39 IS - N2 - All available shoulder finite element models are partially validated against cadaver tests in frontal and lateral impacts and have simplified geometries of shoulder bones and ligaments. In this study, an anatomically-correct FE model of the shoulder bones (humerus, clavicle, scapula, sternum, T1 and first rib) and ligaments is developed using MRI/CT scans. This model was validated against the dynamic response of cadavers in sled (side and frontal) and pendulum impact tests (lateral and oblique) as reported in the literature. The predicted dynamic response of the developed shoulder model agrees well with cadaver response/corridors.
