The two branches have similar flame speeds (Sf), and peak overpressures (Pmax), when ignition starts at the roadway head. The superimposition of flame and blast waves strengthens the violence of the explosion: The value of Pmax increases from 0.38 MPa to 0.46 MPa. If ignition starts at the working face then flame speed and peak overpressure increase slowly as the explosion propagates into the adjacent roadway head. As the explosion propagates toward the closed end Pmax continues to increase but flame speed shows three different behaviors. In this situation the peak overpressure near the junction of the pipes (0.44 MPa) is higher than at the two adjacent points (-0.38 MPa) and the flame speed decreases at the junction. The violence of the explosion is more serious near the junction and equipment and person in this area should receive more attention.
