TY - JOUR PY - 1978// TI - A proposed plan of home safety for the older adult JO - Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomic Society annual meeting A1 - Browning, Helene Ward A1 - Saran, Chitaranjan SP - 592 EP - 596 VL - 22 IS - 1 N2 - 10.7% of Americans are 65 years or older and account for 24% of disabling injuries. Physiological changes associated with aging and relatively higher frequency of home accidents involving the aged suggest home modification which can reduce the frequency and severity of these injuries. This paper suggests some such modifications by exploring the background of the problem, discussing the existing safety features of newer and older houses, and proposing safety education programs for the adults.
