TY - JOUR PY - 1982// TI - The power law of motor control: some diverse applications JO - Proceedings of the Human Factors and Ergonomic Society annual meeting A1 - Kvålseth, Tarald O. SP - 339 EP - 343 VL - 26 IS - 4 N2 - The generality of the recently proposed power law of motor control is further demonstrated in this paper by using it in two widely different areas of human motor activity. First, it is used to provide simple mathematical models of motion time for four different predetermined motion-time systems (PMTS): MTM-1, MTM-2, Work-Factor and BMT. Second, it is used for human locomotion by modelling the relationships between time, speed and distance for various athletic events based on world-record data. Some implications of the results are mentioned. In all cases, the power law is found to provide excellent fits to the empirical data.
