N2  - Currently, there is no generally accepted paradigm that specifies the pattern of psychological correlates with coping strategies and levels of stress for victims of crime. This study investigated the causal influences of well-being from an integrated theoretical perspective. Variables such as appraisal, social support, levels of distress, coping strategies and well-being were analyzed using structural equation modeling. One hundred seventy-five victims of violent or non-violent crime were interviewed. It was found that victims utilizing emotion-focused coping strategies reported higher levels of well-being than those victims who utilized problem-focused coping or avoidance-oriented coping, and that most of the individual demographic characteristics did not have a significant relationship with levels of distress experienced.<p />
