Thus, the aim of this study was to delineate the profile of the elderly assisted by Physiotherapy in two Nursing Homes in Pindamonhangaba (SP). This is a descriptive study with 30 elderly who live in those institutions. Data were collected from gerontological assessment existent in medical records. There was male predominance (53.33%) of single (41.38%) and widowed elderly (41.38%), with living children (60%) and average age of 79 years. Those elderly used to live alone before living in the Nursing Home (34.48%), and the reasons for the institutionalization were the absence of a caregiver (33.4%) and recurrent falls (18.5%). The average of depressive symptoms, according to Geriatric Depresion Scale, was 6.2 points. According to Mini Mental State Examination, 80.7% had positive screening for cognitive decline. The average of difficulty in basic and instrumental activities of daily living, assessed by the Brazilian version of Olders American Research and Services, was 7.5 activities, while the average performance in Timed Up and Go Test was 33.2 seconds, and in Balance Scale, 27.3 points. It was concluded that the elderly assisted by physiotherapy in Nursing Homes in Pindamonhangaba have a functional disability, mobility loss, balance damage, and high risk of falls, besides high occurrence of positive screening for cognitive decline and depressive symptoms.
