TY - JOUR PY - 2013// TI - Estimates of homicide-suicides among the elderly, 1968 to 1975 JO - Homicide studies A1 - Bridges, F. Stephen SP - 224 EP - 236 VL - 17 IS - 2 N2 - This article describes homicide-suicide among those aged 65 years and older in the United States using archival data from 1968 to 1975. Comparisons were made between 184 homicide-suicides and 400 randomly selected victims of all other types of homicide. The findings indicate that homicide-suicides occurred predominantly in the family unit, especially involving female spouses, and among White victims and offenders. Handguns and other firearms were the weapon of choice in homicide-suicides.
