In terms of its contribution to the social cost of road crashes, it far outweighs the contribution of drink driving, speeding, fatigue or non-use of seatbelt. This paper explores some of the common behaviours associated with driver inattention with respect to their perceived crash risks, rates of self-reported behaviours and whether drivers regulate such behaviours depending on the road and traffic environment.
