TY - JOUR PY - 2013// TI - Poisoning with aluminumphosphide can be life-threatening for patients as well as health professionals JO - Ugeskrift for Laeger A1 - Jørgensen, Jørgen Rahr German A1 - Rössel, Petra Rosemarie SP - 1706 EP - 1707 VL - 175 IS - 24 N2 - Aluminumphosphide (AlP) is used worldwide as a rodenticide. Exposed patients are rare in northern Europe due to restricted use. AlP reacts with water or acid to form phosphine which inhibits cellular metabolism and cause cellular hypoxia leading to respiratory distress, unconsciousness, hypotension and cardiac arrhythmias. The treatment is symptomatic and no antidote is available. We present a case story of an intended poisoning in which initial treatment was postponed until proper safety measures for health professionals were available.
