Case study is used to discuss impact of natural and non-natural disasters on railway transportation operation in this study. Broken pile in retaining project for Taiwan Railway was used as example to illustrate the importance of disaster prevention mechanism. Some important issues, such as natural disaster emergency response, safety and health management system for construction engineering, emergency response organization for disaster prevention and rescue operations and railway construction safety management mechanism are discussed on this study. Disaster Bulletin, line blocking, tram power line, condition judged, dispatch and repair work are investigated to minimize the impact of disasters on the transport operations. These experiences can be precious reference for later similar projects.
