N2  - High school dating violence is a prevalent issue with much research on type and incidence, but little about the leaving process. Less research is available on the cognitive coping skills employed by girls during the leaving process. Utilizing interview data which were qualitatively coded, this thesis explored common themes found in the interviews from two female university students who were in violent high school relationships. Study findings suggest that women who are able to end the violence cycle employ some means of cognitive coping skills. The findings are discussed in relation to literature on dating violence and cognitive coping. (Abstract Adapted from Source: Masters Abstracts International, 1999.
