N2  - AUTHOR'S ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to examine and compare the self-report of a sample of adolescent children (N = 119) regarding their level of knowledge of and attitudes toward domestic violence. The study examined whether knowledge of and attitudes toward domestic violence varied by race, age, gender and socioeconomic status (SES). The current study did not investigate intentional injuries to children in abusive or neglectful situations; instead, the study focused on obtaining adolescents' opinions about domestic violence. The study employed a one-shot cross-sectional design. A convenience sample was used to collect the data The teachers (N = 4) received training on how to administer and collect the surveys and how to answer the participants' questions. The adolescents within each class were given the surveys in the same order at the same time. Analysis of Variance, t-test for independent samples, and factorial Analysis of Variance were computed with alpha level at.05 to determine the statistical significance for the variables. Analysis of Variance also was used to determine the interaction effects for race, age, SES, and gender. The study provided needed information about adolescents' knowledge of, and attitudes toward domestic violence in order to develop age-appropriate strategies that could improve their quality of life. This information will benefit and be of interest to mental health counselors, health educators, and other professionals. The findings indicate that statistical significance was found for race and gender on the level of knowledge and attitudes toward domestic violence.
