N2  - China is a seismically active country. They suffered large number of fatality by earthquakes throughout the history. A great deal of requirement on disaster mitigation is becoming a hot topic in the society. This paper focuses on the safety situation of residential environment in Chinese cities and tries to examine the vulnerabilities concerning earthquake disaster mitigation. The city of Tianjin is chosen as a target area for detailed analysis. The observation result was interpreted into suggestions and advices on planning and management. An evaluation was conducted using a numerical description for the urban spaces.<p />
