TY - JOUR PY - 2012// TI - Association between metabolic syndrome and depression in elderly JO - Procedia - social and behavioral sciences A1 - Iconaru, Elena Ioana A1 - Ciucurel, Constantin SP - 994 EP - 997 VL - 33 IS - N2 - During the last decade the incidence of both metabolic syndrome (MS) and depression have been increased in elderly. The aim of this study was to examine the association between MS and the depression in a group of old people. We ascertained that MS is directly associated with depression in elderly and gender do influence the onset of depression, women being more affected than men, independently of the presence of the MS. In these circumstances, the prophylactic approach of the MS may reduce the incidence of depression in elderly.
