TY - JOUR PY - 2012// TI - Recording and evaluation procedure of drivers' distraction: the case of Thessaloniki ring road JO - Procedia - social and behavioral sciences A1 - Missokefalou, Eleni A1 - Eliou, Nikolaos SP - 3159 EP - 3169 VL - 48 IS - N2 - Distracted driving is a growing road safety problem and also the leading cause of car accidents. A lot of in and out-car parameters affect drivers' distraction. The frequency with which this phenomenon occurs is high due, among other reasons, to commercial signing and the poor road geometry. A medium scale experimental procedure has already began at Thessaloniki Ring Road with 10 drivers, using an eye tracking system. The expected results are very useful in order to arrest the oncoming pressure for more commercial signs. This research will be extended to Urban Freeways in the major Greek cities (Athens and Thessaloniki). Keywords: Driver distraction;
