TY - JOUR PY - 1975// TI - Blood alcohol in breath determined by ASD and in blood by widemark and ADH methods. A comparative study JO - Blutalkohol A1 - Alha, A. A1 - Laiho, K. A1 - Linnoila, M. SP - 360 EP - 364 VL - 12 IS - 6 N2 - Parallel determinations of the alcohol level were made in breath with the ASD (Alcohol Screening Device) equipment based on electronic oxidation and in blood samples by the Widmark/ADH method. Tests were performed on 3 volunteer males who had taken 3/4 g absolute alcohol/kg body weight and of 46 persons suspected of drunken driving investigated during a weekend duty period. If the blood alcohol level was below 1.5(per mille), the results obtained from breath and from blood samples were in good accord, but if the blood alcohol level was over 1.5(per mille) the ASD method in nearly all cases gave lower values than the determination from blood samples and the negative difference was up to 0.79(per mille). In actual cases the ASD test does not give alcohol results reliable enough for use in court, but seems a very useful and fairly quick method for a preliminary determination of the order of blood alcohol level.
