TY - JOUR PY - 1982// TI - The influence of ceftriaxon on the alcohol metabolism and acetaldehyde level in serum JO - Blutalkohol A1 - Daldrup, T. A1 - Bohm, E. SP - 252 EP - 263 VL - 19 IS - 3 N2 - In 1980 severe communications on 'antubus-like' effects associated with cephalosporines were published. These informations gave us opportunity to study the influence of the new parenteral cephalosporin Ceftriaxon (Ro 13-9904) on the alcohol metabolism. 20 male volunteers were given, after infusion of Ceftriaxon (resp. placebo), alcohol (beer, brandy or schnapps) to drink. 1,2 and 3 hours after the end of 'test drink' blood was collected and the alcohol-and acetaldehyde concentrations were determinated. In the first sample we found an average alcohol concentration of about 0,7(per mille) and in all the samples the average serum acetaldehyde level was in the range of 0,2 (mu)g/ml. During the placebo-test one volunteer showed 2 - 3 hours after the end of 'test drink' a typical flush with a significant increase of the acetaldehyde level. An influence of Ceftriaxon on the alcohol metabolism and the acetaldehyde level in serum could not be established.
