TY - JOUR PY - 1981// TI - Ethanol-induced lethality in the developing rat JO - Blutalkohol A1 - Hollstedt, Claes A1 - Neri, A. A1 - Rydberg, U. SP - 245 EP - 252 VL - 18 IS - 4 N2 - Both in man and experimental animals, literature data regarding lethal doses of ethanol are conflicting. The age factor has rarely been taken into account. In the present study, the acute lethal doses for ethanol (LD50) were investigated in rats of different weight classes after intraperitoneal and oral administration of ethanol, and the blood ethanol concentrations were analysed In the lowest weight class, the LD50 value at 1 hr after intraperitoneal injection was the highest, 12,3 g/kg decreasing with age. In the 250 g weight class, the LD50 value was 7,2 g/kg. The differences were not explained by variations in maximal blood ethanol concentration. In the oral series, the LD50 values were about 2 g higher than in the intraperitoneal series for the various weight classes. The relevance for man is discussed.
