N2  - Using results of previous investigations on changes in transparency of K2Cr2O7 before and after reduction with standard ethanol solutions this investigation determines the colour location of the carrier liquid by means of spectral analysis in the visible spectrum. Detailed numerical calculations show a significant relationship between colour saturation of the carrier fluid and alcohol concentration, although not a linear one. The accuracy that can be attained by this method is distinctly superior to that of other photometric methods, as will be shown in a subsequent publication. In addition it appears that in alcohol determinations based on the position of the colour location of blank values, a dilution of K2Cr2O7 with aqua bidest in the ratio 1:5 or 1:10 is more advantageous than in the customary ratio of 1:20.<p />
