TY - JOUR PY - 1982// TI - The influence of selective vagotomy on ethanol absorption JO - Blutalkohol A1 - Mittmeyer, H. J. A1 - Lauger, K A1 - Henzler, S SP - 264 EP - 268 VL - 19 IS - 3 N2 - Selective vagotomy leads to a transitory time lag in ethanol absorption since the more or less atonic stomach functions as a reservoir. In the early postoperative phase, therefore, the course of the blood ethanol curve shows a plateau. In the later postoperative course, general normalization of absorption is to be expected. Follow-up examinations of two patients confirmed that ethanol absorption takes place primarily in the small intestine and that gastric motility and tone appreciably influence the absorption rate.
