TY - JOUR PY - 1980// TI - Effects of a fructose-ascorbic acid mixture on reaction times and coordination tests under alcohol JO - Blutalkohol A1 - Schellmann, B. A1 - Reinhardt, G. A1 - Loeser, L SP - 89 EP - 94 VL - 17 IS - 2 N2 - Orally administered fructose-vitamin C-mixture reduced significantly the concentrations of ethanol in the blood, when given with alcohol. In alcohol experiments on 9 healthy subjects (male and female aged 22-42 yr) it was studied, whether this effect of lower levels of the blood alcohol by the sugar mixture can also influence performance and mental behaviour. Reaction times and coordination of the subjects were tested. Treatment with the sugar-mixture diminished the alcohol-induced decrease of performance, although this improvement was not significant. The results showed a wide variety. This makes the 'fructose-effect' not reliable, which is important especially for car drivers.
