TY - JOUR PY - 1998// TI - Proof of abstinence by means of the ethanol metabolite ethyl glucuronide (EtG) in the expert assessment for judging driving ability JO - Blutalkohol A1 - Seidl, S. A1 - Wurst, Friedrich Martin A1 - Alt, A. SP - 174 EP - 182 VL - 35 IS - 3 N2 - 151 drivers who had been convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol and most of whom had negative expert assessments carried out by officially recognised experts were consequently referred to the department of legal medicine of the University of Ulm for further expert assessments. In addition to GGT, MCV and CDT, the concentrations of ethanol and its metabolite ethyl glucuronide (EtG) were determined in blood and serum. In 13 cases (8.6%) EtG could be detected in urine, indicating a recent ethanol intake. In one of the cases urine ethanol was found additionally. 4 of these 13 people had claimed total alcohol abstinence for several years. Thanks to the EtG analysis, this assertion was refutable.
