TY - JOUR PY - 1977// TI - Effect of an isomerized sugar solution ('alsaver') on blood alcohol concentration in man JO - Blutalkohol A1 - Spann, W. A1 - Liebhardt, E. A1 - Beier, G. SP - 205 EP - 212 VL - 14 IS - 4 N2 - The effect of 'Alsaver' (a product of pharmaceutical industry; chemical structure not mentioned) on the blood alcohol concentration was investigated with 40 male persons by a simple blind test in cross-over design. Contrary to our expectation an effect of Alsaver on the alcohol level was found: The maximum of the blood alcohol curve was reached later; the blood alcohol level was lowered statistically significant, (p= 0.01) during the whole period of control, i.e. for five hours after drinking. The mean reduction was 0.12 (per mille) at one hour and 0.05 (per mille) at five hours after drinking. The mechanism is unknown. Both effects could be due to a delay of resorption, however; expecting this, a standard meal (1000 kcal) was given to all test persons before drinking. An influence on the rate of decrease of the blood alcohol level was not found.
