TY - JOUR PY - 1998// TI - Alcohol metabolism in human faeces: The effects of temperature, pH value and individual factors JO - Blutalkohol A1 - Stohlmacher, P A1 - Tiess, D. SP - 25 EP - 35 VL - 35 IS - 1 N2 - Fresh samples of human stool were homogenized in buffer solution and incubated with ethanol. Levels of ethanol and secondary substances were determined by gas chromotography. The findings depended on incubation temperature, pH value and individual faecal factors. Decreasing ethanol concentrations were associated with the synthesis of secondary substances. Propanol-1, butanol-1, methanol, isobutanol, ethylacetate, 2- and 3- methylbutanol-1 and ethylmethylketon were found, depending on conditions. The results of the study do not contradict the assumption that secondary substances can be formed from ethanol, but they do not prove it.
