TY - JOUR PY - 2015// TI - Identification of mental disorders with potential for violence in adolescents and young adults JO - Texas medicine A1 - Chambers, Shawn A1 - Kelley, Urszula SP - 51 EP - 55 VL - 111 IS - 2 N2 - Violence is most prevalent among adolescents and young adults and represents a major public health concern. In the United States, youth violence is a leading cause of injury and death for young people aged 15 to 24 years and is the leading cause of death in African Americans in this age range. Several perspectives can be used to examine the problem of violence perpetrated by adolescents and young adults, including mental health, legislation, and law enforcement. A definitive solution to curtailing violence would likely require modifications in all of these areas. This article reviews the literature on the psychological and biological aspects of violence and aggression, including treatment options.
