SP - 13 EP - 19 VL - 15 IS - 1 N2 - The perception of risk possessed by the public is diverse and subjective. Their acceptance of risk often is conditioned by their daily environment and a personal attitude to safety. The paper addresses the need for safety to be taught as a continuous process through primary and secondary phases of education, and, in the context of human risk within modern society. The creation of the European Community presents a challenge to educationalists to consider and respond to the needs of a community derived from people of different cultures.
