TY - JOUR PY - 2006// TI - In search of synergy using conventional fire tests JO - Fire and polymers IV: materials and concepts for hazard prevention A1 - Russell, LJ A1 - Marney, DCO A1 - Dowling, VP SP - 237 EP - 250 VL - IS - N2 - Conventional fire testing techniques including UL 94 test, cone calorimetry and oxygen index determination, were used to investigate the interaction between a brominated fire retardant and a proprietry fire performance enhancing additive within a polypropylene matrix We have focused upon the techniques and methodologies used and the conclusions that may be drawn to gain a better understanding of the system Analysis of the fire testing results indicates an interaction between the two additives which clearly enhances the fire performance This work has also shown that the use of multiple fire tests representing different fire models can provide valuable information on the burning process for a particular material.
