Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the letter by Mr Nigolian regarding our article, “Protective Equipment and Player Characteristics Associated With the Incidence of Sport-Related Concussion in High School Football Players,”4 which sheds light on risk factors of sport-related concussions (SRCs) in high school football players. We would like to respond to specific points mentioned by Mr Nigolian. We agree that our finding that there was no difference in the rate of SRC by helmet age and recondition status was interesting given the recommendation by the helmet manufacturers to recondition helmets every season and limit their use to a specific amount of years.
