N2  - The special transportation needs of people within Denver's Regional Transportation District who have limited mobility are being served by a program that includes special equipment for the handicapped, special midday shopper service for the elderly, and a plan to make regular service more accessible to these groups. The special equipment for vehicles that provide subscription service to handicapped patrons includes wheelchair lifts, lower-step entry, side destination signing, and several other special features. The needs of the elderly are met in part by special midday shopper service on a weekly schedule. A program to make the entire fleet of buses more accessible by retrofitting certain items, such as extendable steps, grabrails, and side destination signing, is under evaluation. The entire special-needs program is continually being reviewed, modified, and upgraded.<p />
