TY - JOUR PY - 1977// TI - Accident data base for urban pedestrians JO - Transportation research record A1 - Knoblauch, Richard L. SP - 26 EP - 30 VL - 629 IS - N2 - A data collection effort was initiated to provide before and after accident data for a variety of long-term countermeasure evaluation projects. The data base which contains information on 6,000 accidents from 7 states for a 3-year period, reveals a curve that is characteristic of the urban pedestrian accident pattern. The percentages of accidents that occurred between 2:00 and 8:00 pm and those which occurred during daylight lighting conditions were 53 and 68 respectively. The 5 to 9-year group (21 percent) was encountered most frequently, and the total percentage of 14 years old or younger was 42. The type of weather, vehicle and street conditions are also noted. The accident-based countermeasure evaluations are aimed at detecting a change in the occurrence of specific target-accident types.
