N2  - A technique developed at the University of Leeds that combines the collection, analysis, and presentation of data on urban traffic flow in one integrated system is described. Black-and-white aerial photographs of the central area of the city of Leeds were used. The analysis technique involves the use of a coordinate reader and a computer. Data on vehicles in motion and temporarily halted vehicles are collected on a street-by-street basis and fed into the computer on highspeed paper tape. These data are then used to calculate several major traffic parameters, including directional vehicle spot speed, volume, lane concentration, and headway distribution. The advantages and disadvantages of the technique are presented and discussed. It is concluded that the technique compares favorably with more traditional techniques of urban traffic data collection.<p />
