TY - JOUR PY - 2015// TI - Hemolysis caused by accidental exposure to dichlorovos: a rare manifestation JO - Indian journal of forensic medicine and toxicology A1 - Manzoor, Fahim A1 - Bashir, Nusrat A1 - Bhat, Shuaeb A1 - Bashir, Yasir SP - 163 EP - 164 VL - 9 IS - 1 N2 - Dichlorovos, an organophosphate, is an insecticide used on crops, animals, and in pest-strips. Acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) exposures of humans to dichlorvos results in the inhibition of an enzyme, acetylcholinesterase, with neurotoxic effects including perspiration, vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, fatigue, headache, and at high concentrations, convulsions, and coma. Dichlovoros should therefore be added to the list of toxins known to cause acute hemolysis. We present a rare case of a 45 year old male patient of Dichlorovos poisoning presenting as acute hemolysis.
