TY - JOUR PY - 2015// TI - What role does the vehicle have in traffic accident risk? JO - Wirtschaft und Statistik A1 - Poeppel-Decker, M. A1 - Vorndran, I. SP - 96 EP - 103 VL - 2015 IS - 1 N2 - Passenger cars are involved in most road traffic accidents. These cars include a wide range of vehicles such as small cars, off-road vehicles and even motorhomes. The information on vehicle segments now being supplied to the statistical offices by the Federal Motor Transport Authority allows accidents to be more finely differentiated by the passenger car category involved. This article discusses how often vehicles of different segments are involved in personal injury accidents. What is the main cause of accidents and who is at fault most frequently? Is the assumption correct that, in the case of an accident, car occupants are safer in larger than in smaller cars? Apart from answering these questions, the article examines accident severity for various vehicle segments and parties involved. (A)
