N2  - Type 1 diabetes is associated with increased suicide risk. Data for older diabetic individuals are inconsistent. In longitudinal data from 1413 adults recruited to the Fremantle Diabetes Study from 1993-1996 and 5660 matched non-diabetic residents, followed to end-2012, the age and sex-adjusted sub-hazard ratio (95% confidence interval) for suicide in diabetic versus non-diabetic individuals was 1.16 (0.38-3.51). Older Australians with diabetes are not at increased suicide risk.<p />  <p>Language: en</p>
