TY - JOUR PY - 2015// TI - Revisiting pneumatic nail gun trigger recommendations JO - Professional safety, journal of the American Society of Safety Engineers A1 - Albers, James A1 - Lowe, Brian A1 - Lipscomb, Hester A1 - Hudock, Stephen A1 - Dement, John A1 - Evanoff, Bradley A1 - Fullen, Mark A1 - Gillen, Matt A1 - Kaskutas, Vicki A1 - Nolan, James A1 - Patterson, Dennis A1 - Platner, James A1 - Pompeii, Lisa A1 - Schoenfisch, Ashley SP - 30 EP - 33 VL - 60 IS - 4 N2 - Use of a pneumatic nail gun with a sequential actuation trigger (SAT) significantly diminishes the risk for acute traumatic injury compared to use of a contact actuation trigger (CAT) nail gun. A theoretically-based increased risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders from use of a SAT nail gun, relative to CAT, appears unlikely and remains unproven. Based on current knowledge, the use of CAT nail guns cannot be justified as a safe alternative to SAT nail guns. This letter provides a perspective of ergonomists and occupational safety researchers recommending the use of the sequential actuation trigger for all nail gun tasks in the construction industry.
