TY - JOUR PY - 2006// TI - Trafficking in women and children (part 1): A literature review of contributory factors JO - Community safety journal A1 - Egan, Ryan SP - 4 EP - 11 VL - 5 IS - 1 N2 - This review, the first of a two-part series, surveys the literature on human trafficking. Although there are many reasons behind this global phenomenon, they may be divided into "push" and "pull" factors as well as supply and demand factors. None of these categories are mutually exclusive, however, and they are often interchangeable. The discussion also focuses on the motivations behind trafficking, the needs of victims, and the implications for policy makers and authorities whose job it is to define, estimate, and prevent human trafficking.
