N2  - The article provides an overview of the major instruments and policies to deal with the problem of trafficking in humans. It begins with a discussion of the 1989 United Nations (UN) Convention on the Rights of the Child to highlight the sociopolitical mechanisms taken into consideration to strengthen the fight against trafficking and to further develop European and international cooperation on the prohibition of slave trade and forced or slave labor. It also illustrates how non-governmental organizations play an important role in the development of anti-trafficking policies.   Keywords: Human trafficking<p />
