SP - 45 EP - 47 VL - 23 IS - 6 N2 - In this article, the authors use the Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) to assess the safety performance of widely used nonproprietary roadside safety features including longitudinal barriers; terminals and crash cushions; transitions; and breakaway supports. An impact test for a Modified G2 Weak Post W-Beam guardrail was conducted using a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 4-door pickup as the test vehicle. The vehicle had a Test Inertia Weight of 5004 lbs and impacted the guardrail at a speed of 62.4 miles per hour at an angle of 24.6 degrees. The guardrail was found to perform acceptably when impacted by the vehicle, containing and redirecting the vehicle; the vehicle did not penetrate, underride or override the weak post guardrail.
