N2  - Individual studies on the effectiveness of services conducted since 1988 and recent reviews of studies are described for eight mental health service components for children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbances and their families. The service components reviewed include residential services, outpatient services, day treatment services, family preservation and reunification services, therapeutic foster care, crisis and emergency services, case management and individualized care, and family support services and groups.
