N2  - Four groups of students on a high school campus were surveyed about their experiences of school violence and feelings of safety. These student groups included general education students, students attending a leadership class, and students with behavioral and learning difficulties who attended an opportunity class or a special day class. The opportunity and leadership class students experienced and observed higher rates of school violence. The special day class students experienced higher rates of bullying than the other groups. The relationship between school safety and school violence was explored through correlations indicating, as predicted, that the experience of violence decreases feelings of safety and that feelings of safety are also related to social support systems utilized by students. Somewhat different patterns of these relationships were evident for each of the groups sampled.<p /> <p>Language: en</p>
