N2  - Exclusion and seclusion/isolation timeout are procedures frequently used to reduce the undesirable behaviors of students with behavioral disorders (BD). Given the extent of timeout use, it is important that teachers of students with BD possess skill in utilizing the procedure. It is equally important that teachers be aware of legal considerations. Although federal law does not address timeout and students with BD, a number of cases have led to the development of a body of case law that deals with the appropriate use of these procedures.
