TY - JOUR PY - 1983// TI - Aggressive behaviors of children: a review of behavioral interventions and future directions JO - Education and treatment of children A1 - Sallis, James F. SP - 175 EP - 191 VL - 6 IS - 2 N2 - This paper reviews the numerous behavioral and cognitive-behavioral techniques for treating aggressive behaviors in children. Environment-focused methods such as opérant and parent training techniques appear most efficacious in reducing aggressive behaviors but are limited in generalization and maintenance effects, partially due to lack of attention to these problems. Person-focused approaches such as social skills training appear less effective in aggression suppression, but they have substantial potential for enhancing generalization and maintenance. It is recommended that the benefits of combining environmental management and skills training approaches in the same treatment program be evaluated in future studies.
