TY - JOUR PY - 2015// TI - Differences in the accident participation between women and men as car drivers under special consideration of older drivers JO - Zeitschrift für Verkehrssicherheit ZVS A1 - Rompe, K. O. SP - 91 EP - 96 VL - 61 IS - 2 N2 - That there are differences in the accident participation between women and men, mainly caused by a more defensive way of driving of the women, is well known. But the real magnitude of these differences is not known. By combining data of different sources one can evaluate this magnitude. One result is that related to the number of driving-license owners women of all age groups cause about one third fewer car accidents with injuries than men. On the other hand, the severity of car accidents caused by women is only half as strong as that of accidents caused by men. Both statements together mean, that related to the number of driving-license owners there is a relationship of nearly 3:1 for fatalities caused by a car accident where a man is at fault compared to those accidents caused by a woman. Therefore, one has to take into consideration these differences in the accident participation between women and men, when installing measures to increase road safety.
