Suicidal attempt, accidental penetration, domestic violence, and child abuse are likely causes for such injury. Owing to their sharp nature, needles can rapidly migrate through the tissues. Fatalities are due to cardiac tamponade, infection, peripheral embolism, and valve dysfunction.
