The JSA is a suicide risk assessment instrument that can be used by mental health professionals who work with youth involved in the juvenile justice system. The rationale and clinical significance of each of the suicide risk and protective factors comprising the JSA are discussed. The authors discuss important considerations for assessing suicide risk among incarcerated juveniles and identify how the JSA may have clinical-utility for accomplishing this task.
